Falafel is a staple of Israeli cuisine. Chickpea balls with plenty of fresh herbs and spices are traditionally deep-fried and then served in pita with tahini, hummus, and fresh salad. Here is a healthier version of this delicious falafel, baked in the oven instead
Ingredients
2 cups cooked chickpeas (I used canned)
1/2 red onion
A bunch of parsley
A bunch of cilantro
Juice of 1/4 lemon
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp sweet paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
Steps
Blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. If the mixture seems too thick, add a little cold water
Using wet hands, shape the mixture into small patties or balls and place them on a baking sheet
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 10 minutes on one side, then another 10 minutes on the other side
