A simple but slightly different idea for a hot breakfast sandwich. It’s essentially a savory version of French toast. The fillings can easily be adjusted depending on your taste or what you have at home. Today I'm presenting two versions: one with ham, cheese, and tomato, and another with mushrooms, cheese, and sprouts
Ingredients (for 2 sandwiches)
4 slices of white bread
2 eggs
1/8 cup milk (30 ml)
salt and pepper to taste
30 g butter
For Filling #1
cheese
ham
tomato
For Filling #2
onion
mushrooms (I used champignons)
cheese
salt and pepper
sprouts
vegetable oil for frying
Steps
Filling #1
Season eggs with salt and pepper, add milk, and lightly whisk with a fork or whisk
Melt butter in a pan
Place ham, cheese, and tomato between two slices of bread
Dip the sandwich into the egg mixture on both sides
Fry covered on both sides until golden brown
Filling #2
Chop onion and mushrooms into small pieces
Sauté onion in vegetable oil until translucent
Add mushrooms and cook until golden
Season with salt and pepper
Whisk eggs with salt, pepper, and milk
Melt butter in a pan
Place mushrooms, onions, cheese, and sprouts between two slices of bread
Dip the sandwich into the egg mixture on both sides
Fry covered on both sides until golden brown
