It's hard to think of a more iconic cookie than the classic chocolate chip cookie. Easy to make, wonderfully fragrant, and always delicious, it combines crisp edges, a soft center, and plenty of chocolate in every bite
Ingredients (makes 18 cookies)
1 cup all-purpose flour (125 g)
1/2 tsp baking soda
pinch of salt
113 g unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar (a mix of white and light brown sugar)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup walnuts
Steps
Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt
In a separate bowl, beat the butter, gradually adding the sugar, for about 5 minutes
Continue beating and add the egg, then beat for another 2 minutes
Add the vanilla and mix well
Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in 3 additions, mixing after each addition
Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts
The dough will be soft, airy, and slightly sticky
With wet hands, form balls and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet about 3 cm apart
Gently flatten the balls into circles about 4 cm in diameter
Bake at 190°C (375°F) for 15 minutes
