If you love meatballs and Asian-inspired cuisine, this dish is for you. Meatballs are very popular in Canada, where they’re often served as an appetizer or as a main dish with rice
Ingredients (makes 30 meatballs)
For the Meatballs
500 g ground pork
1 egg
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 tsp freshly grated ginger
1 tsp soy sauce
2 green onions, finely chopped
Black pepper
For the Sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup water
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp freshly grated ginger
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp sesame seeds
Steps
Meatballs
Mix all the ingredients and shape the mixture into 30 ping-pong-ball-sized meatballs
Arrange on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes
Sauce
While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce by mixing all the ingredients except the cornstarch
Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes
Mix the cornstarch with an additional 2 tbsp of water and add to the sauce, stirring constantly. Cook over very low heat until the sauce thickens
When the meatballs are ready, add them to the hot sauce and mix well. Turn off the heat and let them absorb the sauce for 10 minutes
Serve over rice, topped with green onions and sesame seeds
