A simple and delicious chocolate cake made with a boiling water batter. The layers are soft, moist, and perfect as a base for kids’ cakes. You can fill and frost it with any cream you like — this time I used a chocolate cream cheese filling. For Halloween, it can be decorated with gummy worms and “chocolate soil” for a fun spooky effect
Cake batter
2 1/2 cups flour (310 g)
1 cup sugar (250 g)
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
5 tbsp cocoa powder
2 eggs
1 cup milk (240 ml)
1/2 cup vegetable oil (120 ml)
1 cup boiling water (240 ml)
Cream
200 g cream cheese (I used Philadelphia)
1 cup powdered sugar (125 g)
1 cup heavy cream 35% (240 ml)
Decoration
Candies of choice
Cake
Whisk eggs and sugar with a mixer
Add milk and vegetable oil
Add dry ingredients and mix into a thick batter
Pour in boiling water and mix until smooth
Bake at 160°C (320°F) for 45–50 minutes
Cool completely and cut off the top, set it aside for crumbs
Cream
7. Beat cream cheese with powdered sugar
8. While mixing, gradually add heavy cream and whip until thick and smooth
Cut the cooled cake into 2–3 layers
Spread cream between layers
Sprinkle with cake crumbs from the top
Decorate with candies as desired
