Sweet New York. May, 2013

New York. The city that never sleeps. A city that attracts tourists from all over the world. A city of skyscrapers and historic buildings. A city of theaters and museums. A city that brings together an incredible number of cultures and culinary traditions. After visiting New York, you are left with so many impressions that it is simply impossible to fit them all into one short story. So I decided to start with the most delicious part. Sweet New York. Or, more precisely, sweet Manhattan.

Would you like to join me on a walk through the sweetest spots in Manhattan? I promise lots of sweets without any harm to your figure:)

I’ll start our walk at Junior’s, a restaurant where you can enjoy a true New York cheesecake. They say that the founders of this chain created a cheesecake recipe back in 1950 that later became famous around the world. And although there are many recipes for New York cheesecake today, Junior’s cheesecake can be called an authentic one. You can see my recipe of New York Cheesecake with Strawberry Swirls here

Have you ever watched the cooking reality show Cake Boss? The pastry chef Buddy not only creates incredibly beautiful cakes, but also very enthusiastically demonstrates his talent. And here is the restaurant of the king of cakes. Notice the glass display window, where you can watch the baking process right from the street 

Europan Cafe — one of the many pastry shops along Broadway. And not far away is paradise for chocolate lovers — Belgian chocolate Godiva 

American chocolate and Swiss chocolate in an incredibly beautiful shop near Rockefeller Centre 

If we’re talking about sweets, we simply can’t leave out the M&M’S store in Times Square. Now that’s a place where kids can really have fun 

And here is a small but quite popular café — Amy’s Bread. It was located on 9th Avenue, very close to our hotel. Tiny, but clearly a favorite among visitors, especially during breakfast hours

It would probably be wrong to leave out the street food. The famous New York pretzels. Fresh and aromatic. You can find them on practically every corner

And we especially liked this restaurant. A true paradise for chocolate lovers. Remember the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Well, Max Brenner looks just like that very factory, where chocolate flows through pipes and then pours into and mixes in huge vats 

Here you can indulge in candies and even huge "scrolls" of chocolate 

The shelves are decorated with jars filled with sweet "spices". Our breakfast was absolutely delicious 

And to balance out all the sweetness, I’ll show you a little of New York itself, or more precisely, Manhattan. Manhattan has an enormous number of buildings and skyscrapers that are not only beautiful, but also famous. Of course, I’ll start with the famous Statue of Liberty, which unfortunately suffered quite a bit of damage during the last Hurricane Sandy. From the boat heading toward the statue, you can capture these beautiful views of Manhattan 

You can also admire some of New York’s most beautiful bridges.

The tallest building is the Empire State Building. It is more than 400 m tall. It is one of the most popular buildings for visiting an observation deck, which offers a magnificent view of the city

We visited the observation deck of another equally famous landmark — Rockefeller Center, and it was from there that we admired the view of the Empire State Building and Manhattan at night 

And now we come back down to earth and admire the residential buildings. It’s probably better not to ask how much an apartment in one of these buildings costs :)))

And if we go even lower, we can see the colorful buildings. The fire escapes are designed to provide a way out in case of fire, but I’ve heard that some New Yorkers like to set up their grills on these fire escapes and have cozy summer picnics :)

The main post office building and the famous Flatiron Building. The Flatiron’s distinctive shape was designed to fit the building into the rather awkward space where Broadway and 5th Avenue intersect
