Chicken Paprikash is a traditional Hungarian dish where chicken is slowly stewed with vegetables in a rich, creamy sauce. As the name suggests, paprika is the key ingredient that gives the dish its signature color and flavor
500–700 g chicken fillet (I used chicken thighs)
1 large onion
1 bell pepper
1 tomato
1 cup sour cream (240 ml)
1 tbsp flour
2 tbsp paprika
1 tsp sugar
salt to taste
1 cup hot broth / boiling water
vegetable oil and butter for frying
Cut chicken, onion, and pepper into cubes. Grate the tomato on a coarse grater
Season the chicken with salt and pepper and fry in vegetable oil until golden brown, then set aside
In the same pan, melt a little butter, add the onion and sauté until translucent. Add paprika and pepper, and cook until the onion becomes lightly golden, stirring
Add the tomato, broth/water, and chicken. Season with salt and sugar, cover, and simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes
Mix the sour cream with flour until smooth, then add it to the chicken
Continue simmering for about 10 more minutes
